The Cultural Prescribing initiative is included in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0” and is being implemented within the framework of Action Code 16735, entitled: “Infrastructure for the Contribution of Culture to the ‘Silver Economy’ & Leveraging Art to Improve Mental Health,” under the responsibility of the Ministry of Culture.
Participation in arts-based activities helps citizens develop inner stability and manage stress, sadness, and the psychosocial pressures of everyday life more effectively. Art acts as a tool for self-awareness and emotional empowerment.
The preventive and supportive role of art strengthens the complementary dimension of treatment.
Artistic activities provide a safe space for communication, empathy, and togetherness, helping to break down stereotypes surrounding mental illness. Participants experience inclusion through creativity, rather than exclusion.
Active engagement with the arts stimulates imagination, memory, and concentration, while also strengthening emotional expression and communication skills. It is a gentle, non-pharmaceutical intervention with proven positive effects on an individual’s overall functioning.
