The Art on Prescription project is included in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “GREECE 2.0” and is implemented within the framework of the Action with code 16735, under the title: “Infrastructure for the Contribution of Culture to the ‘Silver Economy’ & Utilization of Art for the Improvement of Mental Health”, under the responsibility of the Ministry of Culture.
Engaging in art activities helps citizens build inner stability and more effectively manage stress, sadness, and the psychosocial pressures of daily life. Art serves as a tool for self-discovery and emotional empowerment.
The preventive and supportive function of art reduces the need for pharmacological or hospital interventions, while simultaneously enhancing the complementary dimension of therapy. In this way, the workload of public mental health services is alleviated, and primary care is strengthened.
Artistic activities provide a safe space for communication, empathy, and community, contributing to the dismantling of stereotypes surrounding mental illness. Participants experience inclusion through creation, rather than exclusion.
Active engagement with the arts stimulates imagination, memory, and focus, while simultaneously enhancing emotional expression and communication skills. It serves as a gentle, non-pharmacological intervention with proven positive effects on an individual’s functionality.
